A Very Good copy of the first US edition (spine a bit askew, bottom corners bumped, page block edges foxed, pages mildly age toned, light shelf wear), in a Very Good dust jacket (a bit of rubbing at stress points, color variation at front panel through spine), SIGNED BY MURIEL SPARK on the title page. While one can obtain the signed UK limited edition (of which 150 copies were printed) signed copies of the trade edition are, in our experience, hens' teeth. A Very Good copy, SIGNED BY MURIEL SPARK.

A Very Good copy (mildly askew, a bit of soiling to page block edges, spine ends pushed, a few spots of foxing to the margins of a few early pages, otherwise about Fine) in a Very Good price-clipped dust jacket (rubbing at spine ends and panel tips, some scratching to front panel, light soil and a touch of wrinkling to rear panel, short crease line to lower corner of rear flap). Fearing for her safety during W.W.II and wanting to ensure that the Poirot series had a proper ending, Christie wrote the book decades prior to its publication and had it locked in a bank vault until the proper time. Upon concluding that she no longer could write novels, Christie authorized the book's publication. Marking the last appearance of Poirot and of Hastings and fittingly set at Styles where the two men solved their first case together, it was the last of Christie's works to be published during her lifetime. A Very Good copy of an important Christie novel.

Bound in an attractive quarter leather binding with elegant marbled boards and a rich blue topstain, this is a Fine copy (in a fine clear acetate dust jacket) of the true first edition (preceding the American first) of this mystery featuring Block's famed character, Matt Scudder, private investigator. SIGNED BY LAWRENCE BLOCK, and containing an appreciation by the noted horror author. Published by The Scorpion Press (which specializes in publishing signed limited edition crime fiction), Hope to Die was issued in a limited edition consisting of 99 numbered copies (bound in a special binding and signed by the author) and 15 de luxe lettered copies issued for private distribution. These limited editions are the only copies with the Straub appreciation, the same not appearing in the first trade edition. In his appreciation, Straub explores Block's Matt Scudder series in detail and, with keen insight, explains why Block's tales have strong parallels to Raymond Chandler's best work. This copy is number 20 (of 99). A very attractive copy of the rare true first edition, SIGNED BY LAWRENCE BLOCK.
