PRESENTLY DISCOUNTED 30%. WAS $675. An excellent collection of early to mid 19th Century photographs housed in an attractive, ornate, album measuring approximately 5 1/4" x 4" x 2 1/4 " and containing, among many other interesting photographs, a photograph of General Tom Thumb with his wife Lavinia Warren. "General Tom Thumb" was the stage name of Charles Sherwood Stratton who gained world-wide fame performing under his distant relative P. T. Barnum, appearing twice before Queen Victoria of England and meeting then then 3 year-old future King Edward VII. Thumb became a wealthy man, eventually owing a home in New York City and, of all places, on one of Connecticutt's Thimble Islands. The album's front hinge is broken and there is the occasional stain and occasional tear to the leaves that house the photographs. An excellent and attactive set of 19th Century photographs, including a scarce photograph of General Tom Thumb.

A Sarony Studio CDV photograph of the great Victorian Author, with what we presume to be a clipping from a Trollope letter reading "Yours most affectionately / Anthony Trollope" in Trollope's hand. The photograph was taken at the famed Sarony Studios in New York and is mounted on a Sarony card. Trollope traveled to the United States in 1861 to conduct Post Office business. While in the US, Trollope and his dear friend and fellow (American) author Kate Field (with whom he had a "warm" relationship and corresponded extensively) visited the famous portrait studios of Napoleon Sarony in New York where they each had their portraits made, presumably resulting in this photograph. Apparently, they did not have themselves photographed together to avoid rumors and offense to Trollope's wife. A Very Nice Signed Trollope item. Trollope signatures are not terribly common on the market.

A much larger photograph of Anthony Trollope than usually found. The card measures approximately 6 1/4" x 4 1/8", and the photograph measures approximately 5 1/2" x 3 7/8". The oval itself measures approximately 4 1/4" x 3 1/8" from the center to the outermost edges. The photograph was taken at the famed Sarony Studios in New York and is mounted on the (mildly bowed) Sarony card. The photograph is in quite nice condition with some toning around the edges and a few tiny dark spots. The card has tiny rubs around the edges and Trollope's name written in pencil on the back. Most photographs of Trollope to come on the market are considerably smaller.

A RARE PROOF MILLAIS ILLUSTRATION produced from the original wood-engraved plate for the illustration inserted at Vol. 2, page 13, of Anthony Trollope's Framley Parsonage. While an integral part of Trollope's famed Barchester series of novels (being the 4th novel in that series), Framley Parsonage is an important work of Victorian fiction in its own right. Although he had had some limited (and we do mean limited) success with certain of his earlier novels, with Framley Parsonage Trollope had indeed "arrived" as a novelist. This is the Original Proof PRINTING of the illustration titled "Won't you take some more wine?". (The Proof printing has no caption to it as the caption would have been inserted by the printer when printing the sheets for publication. The illustration's title is written in pencil at the bottom of the card stock.) From the Publisher's files and mounted to heavy card stock, this remarkable piece of Trollope ephemera is remarkably rare and presents a collection-distinguishing opportunity for the Trollope collector, and a wonderful opportunity for the Millais collector as well. RARE ORIGINAL PROOF MILLAIS ILLUSTRATION FOR FRAMLEY PARSONAGE.
