A collection of nonfictional pieces by one of England's greatest writers of the modern era, including book reviews, interviews with other authors, author profiles, and other occasional pieces written by Amis. Son of the author Sir Kingsley Amis, Martin Amis has been dubbed the "leading luminary of the English metropolitan literary world" by Terry Eagleton, England's most influential (living) literary critic.  The book's title comes from a visit Amis had with Vera Nabokov, wife of Vladimir Nabokov, one of Amis' literary heroes.
