The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse [Los Cuatro Jinetes del Apocalipsis]

London: Constable and Company, 1919. First Edition, First Printing. Hardcover. A Very Good copy of the first edition, first printing in the Publisher's original green cloth (some sunning to the spine, leaves toned due to the type of paper used, minor wear to the binding); a story centered on the French and German sons-in-law of an Argentinean landowner who find themselves fighting on opposite sides in the First World War. This translation, which Publishers Weekly described as "a superbly human story told by a genius", became the best-selling novel of 1919 in the United States. The novel provided the basis for the 1921 movie starring Rudolf Valentino. [In 1962, another movie -- starring Glenn Ford, Ingrid Thulin, Charles Boyer, Lee J. Cobb, Paul Lukas, Yvette Mimieux, Karl Boehm and Paul Henreid -- was based on the novel, but set the action in World War II.] In 2013, the Spanish newspaper included the novel on its list of 100 best novels of the twentieth century. In our experience, this first UK edition is surprisingly uncommon to the market. A Very Good (or better for this title) copy of this notable work. SCARCE INDEED. Very good +. Item #1001. Very good. Item #1001
