Matterhorn: A Novel of the Vietnam War [Uncorrected Proof]

New York: Atlantic Monthly Press/El Leon Literary Arts, 2010. First Edition. Wrappers. A Fine copy of the Uncorrected Proof for the First Edition, First Printing (following a small 2009 printing by El Leon Literary Arts, Berkeley) in the Publisher's original wrappers (tiny push to the front wrapper's upper right corner, slight imperfections to the closed page block's front edge); the author's DEBUT NOVEL, a work set in Vietnam during the Vietnam War and based on the author's experiences as the commander of a rifle platoon and an exceedingly well-received book. Marlantes spent approximately three decades working on the novel and the novel was rejected by publishers multiple times. However, after publication, the novel made the New York Times bestseller list, won the 2011 William E. Colby Award, was ranked #7 Fiction in Time's Best Books of the Year (2010). It was one of the New York Times Notable Books of the Year (2010). It was an ALA Notable Book (2010), won the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association Award (2011), won the Indies Choice Book Award (Adult Debut, 2011) and won the 2010 John Sargent, Sr. First Novel Prize. Writing in the New York Times, Sebastian Junger declared the work to be " of the most profound and devastating novels ever to come out of Vietnam—or any war." For his military service, Marlantes was awarded the Navy Cross, the Bronze Star, two Navy Commendation Medals for valor, two Purple Hearts, and ten air medals for his service in Vietnam. In our experience, copies of this Uncorrected Proof are surprisingly uncommon. SCARCE. Fine. Item #1033
