A Fine copy of the first edition, first printing, in the Publisher's original red cloth (quite mildly askew, prior owner's presentation note to the front free endpaper), with the front board lettered in bright gilt and the spine panel lettered in gilt as well; the fifth and final collection of the author's popular Wolfville stories featuring the Wolfville characters that have not yet been "shot up", and wherein Faro Nell plays a larger role than in the the author's earlier Wolfville works. The book contains a Frontispiece and eleven other illustrations. Alfred Henry Lewis (1855 - 1914) was an American investigative journalist, lawyer, novelist, editor, and short story writer who began his career as a staff writer at the Chicago Times, and eventually became editor of the Chicago Times-Herald.
