Fup [True First Edition]

Berkeley: City Miner Books, 1983. First Edition, First Printing. Wrappers. A Fine copy of the uncommon true first edition, first printing, in the Publisher's original lettered and decorated wrappers, with the wrappers being surprisingly bright. Jim Dodge's Debut Book, a tale set in the coastal hills of northern California in the late 19th Century, the story centers around two humans, a cantankerous, ninety-nine-year-old named Jim Santee fond of gambling and whiskey, and his adopted grandson, a gentle giant who obsessively builds well-crafted and unneeded fences and a Fup a twenty-pound mallard with an iron will and a fondness for alcohol and romantic movies. The tale developed a cult readership and was republished by Simon & Schuster in 1984. This is the nicest copy of Jim Dodge's Debut Book that we ever have seen. Fine. Item #2647. Fine. Item #2647
