New York and London: The Century Co., New York Macmillan and Company, London, 1901 - 1902. First Edition, First Printing. Hardcover. A Very Good set of the St. Nicholas (Saint Nicholas) magazine containing the magazine issues from November 1901 through April, 1902 in Part I (the first volume) and the following issues from May, 1902 through October, 1902 (the second volume) which together comprise Volume 29 of this highly-notable magazine conducted by Mary Mapes Dodge. The volumes are bound in matching 3/4 red leather with coordinating red cloth boards. Each Volume is in Very Good condition and shows general rubbing to the bindings, scattered minor stains, and some wrinkling and short marginal to some of the leaves. The text is generally clean and bright; no previous ownership markings. Part II includes an abridgment of "The Cruise of the Dazzler" by Jack London (twenty-nine pages with double-columns of text). This appearance of the tale preceded the hardcover first edition by approximately three months and was published in St. Nicholas as part of the magazine's series of long-stories-complete-in-one-issue. Part II also contains the Jack London short story "To Repel Boarders". As usual, the magazine issues are here published as a group and without the single issues wrappers and advertisements. The volumes also include work by Mary Austin and many others. A Very Good set of these notable Jack London tales. RATHER UNCOMMON.
