A Fine copy of the first edition, first printing with the closed page block's blue topstain in nice condition (some foxing to the closed page block's leading and bottom edges) in a Fine dust jacket showing the proper $6.95 price and without the usual sunning to the spine panel (only mild wear and a tiny tear to the front panel's top edge, three small and unnecessary tape repairs to the verso and some foxing to the jacket verso and to the flaps) but showing considerably less wear than we usually see -- the dust jacket on this title typically, if present at all, being worn and torn), SIGNED BY THEODORE H. WHITE on the tipped-in front free endpaper, being part of Koch and Bretano's delivery of signed books to members of its First Edition Circle, complete with the original letter from Koch and Bretano's President and with the original bookmark, both loosely laid in. The book presents Pulitzer Prize-winning author Theodore H. White's recounting of the 1964 U. S. Presidential campaign pitting John F. Kennedy's former Vice-President Lyndon Baines Johnson (who had become the President promptly after John F. Kennedy's assassination) against the Republican candidate Barry Goldwater. As conservative commentator William F. Buckley stated: "[White] revolutionized the art of political reporting." Copies in a condition as nice as is this copy are hard to find and such copies complete with the original letter and bookmark are SCARCE INDEED. Fine / fine. Item #2860
