An Eye for an Eye [Scarce Yellowback Edition]

London: Chapman & Hall, 1879. First Yellowback Edition / Second One-Volume edition. Hardcover. A Very Good (and well-worn, as usual) copy of the first yellowback edition of this Trollope novel, a work which was first published in two volumes in 1879. Thereafter, in the same year, a "New and Revised Edition" housed in a single volume, and this yellowback edition also was published in one-volume. (We have been collection, buying, and selling Trollope's works since 1978 and never have seen a copy of the "New and Revised Edition, and this is the only copy of the yellowback version that we ever have seen. Trollope himself referred to the book as an "opusculum" [a small or minor literary (or musical) work]. Yellowback editions of Victorian-Era works were published and sold or rented at such places as train stations at low prices so that readers would have a novel in an inexpensive binding to read as they traveled. Thus, it is quite common/normal to find them to be well-worn. Copies of any edition published in 1879, the first year of the novel's publication, are rather scarce to the market. QUITE SCARCE INDEED. Very good. Item #2902
