A Good + copy of this corrected edition, being the Second Edition of this notable work, bound in leather and showing partial splitting to each joint but with the boards still holding. The compartmented spine hosts an applied red leather title block filling one compartment, an applied piece of black leather hosing the author name. Each other compartment is decorated in gilt. The pastedowns and facing side of the adjoining free endpapers are marbled, and two paper inserts have been tipped to the verso of the third front free endpaper. Within, the leaves show scattered foxing and William Swanson's bookplate graces the front pastedown. Per Wikipedia: "Maria Edgeworth (1 January 1768 – 22 May 1849) was a prolific Anglo-Irish writer of adults' and children's literature. She was one of the first realist writers in children's literature and was a significant figure in the evolution of the novel in Europe. She held views on estate management, politics and education, and corresponded with some of the leading literary and economic writers, including Sir Walter Scott and David Ricardo."
