A Very Good + copy of this bound Volume of 26 issues of The Youth's Companion which contains the first appearance of Jack London's magnificent short story, "To Build a Fire", published by The Youth's Companion on May 29th. A revised version of the tale appeared six years later "The American Century magazine in which revision the weather becomes colder, an anonymous interloper appears, a faithful Alaskan dog appears and the ultimate result is different! An absolutely gorgeous collection of a half-year's worth of weekly issues of this influential newspaper-style magazine for youth. This bound volume contains issues for January 2; January 9; January 16; January 23; January 30; February 6; February 13; February 20; February 27; March 6; March 13; March 20; March 27; April 3; April 10; April 17; April 24; May 1; May 8; May 15; May 22; May 29; June 5; June 12; June 19; June 26, 1902. This latter issue of The Youth's Companion also contains the first appearance of Kate Chopin's short story "The Wood-Choppers", Willa Cather's poem "The Night Express", and the February 20, 1902 issue contains "The New Citizen" by Theodore Roosevelt, President of the United States. The set also contains the entire serialization of "Pickett's Gap" by Homer Green. The volume is bound in green buckram cloth with gilt lettering over a burgundy-colored label to spine, abraded a bit. One free endpaper is crimped diagonally, with slight crimping behind it, else a clean, tightly bound, bright and unmarked collection of 26 issues with a few tiny tears scattered among the leaves of this extremely-notable publication for youth.
