An essentially Fine copy of the first edition, first printing in the Publisher's original green cloth (light corner rubbing, attractive embossment to the rear board's lower left) housed in a custom cloth box and lacking the scarce dust jacket. The volume presents a Play by John Galsworthy and includes a list headed "PERSONS OF THE PLAY" as well as a list of the Cast of the Play's first production [which took place at The Royal Court Theatre on September 16, 1913]. In addition to his prolific literary output, Galsworthy was also a renowned social activist and an outspoken advocate for the women's suffrage movement, prison reform, and animal rights. He also served as the president of PEN, an organization that sought to promote international cooperation through literature. Many of his works, including this Play, dealt with the English class system and how it worked. John Galsworthy won the 1932 Noble Prize in Literature. Fine. Item #3200
