London: Chatto & Windus, 1902. First Edition, First Printing. Hardcover. A Very Good- copy of the first edition, first printing of this noted work by the noted Poet and Biographer Austin Dobson [Henry Austin Dobson], in a Very Good- example of the QUITE SCARCE DUST JACKET. The book contains a number of what Dobson terms "papers" and presents his writings titled: Mrs. Woffington; St. James's Park; the Covent-Garden Journal; Chinese Shadows; Dear Mrs. Delany; The Vicar of Wakefiled and it's Illustrators; Dr. Johnson's Haunts and Habitations; Titled Authors of the Eighteenth Century; The Story of the 'Spectator''; A Walk from Fulham to Chiswick; On Certain Quotations in Walton's Angler; and Vader Cats, and contains a helpful index to the rear. The book shows general wear to the boards (as is common to this title), and the dust jacket shows wear and loss to the spine (as well as some archival mending tape to the verso) and each flap is detached but present. The top edge of the closed page block is in gilt. As noted in Wikipedia:"It was not until 1868 that the appearance of St Paul's, a magazine edited by Anthony Trollope, gave Harry Dobson an opportunity and an audience;...." This copy of Dobson's work belonged to the noted collector Oliver Henry Perkins whose bookplate graces the front pastedown. While worn, COPIES OF THIS WORK IN THE ORIGINAL DUST JACKET ARE SCARCE.
