A Near Fine copy of the first edition, first printing showing minor bumping to the upper leading corner of each board in a Near Fine or better dust jacket; a work set in 1942 Berlin. The book portrays the relationship between an eight year old boy, Bruno, and a Jewish prisoner held in a Nazi extermination camp in Poland commanded by Bruno's father. The relationship begins after the family has moved from Berlin to Poland upon his father's promotion to his new position in Poland. Behind their new home that houses the prison camp which Bruno assumes is merely a farm. His father there hires a tutor for Bruno and his sister to indoctrinate them in Nazi propaganda and antisemitism. Banned from going near the camp, Bruno sneaks off frequiently and makes friends with a young boy there who Bruno believes to be wearing striped pyjamas. The novel provided the basis of a 2008 film of the same name. Item #3544
