Poems and Verses of Charles Dickens
London: Chapman and Hall, Limited, 1903. First Edition, First Printing. Hardcover. A Fine copy of the first edition, first printing in a Very Near Fine dust jacket, being a work "Collected and Edited, with Biographical Notes, by F. G. Kitton" [Frederick George Kitton, 1856 - 1904]. While not flawless, the book is in beautiful condition, tight and unread with a number of leaf pairs being unopened/uncut at their respective leading edges (resulting in a short tear to the front page of one of such leaf pairs caused by a prior holder's attempt to open one of the conjoined leaves). The dust jacket shows some sun-toning to the spine panel and the rear flap's top edge as been folded inwards. Frederick George Kitton, a British wood-engraver, author, and illustrator, contributed to several art periodicals, including The Art Journal and Magazine of Art, and, in 1882, began literary work, illustrating and editing other authors' work and also his own, most of which were related to the work of Charles Dickens, and he annotated the 1900 'Rochester' edition of Dickens's work. One of the Founders of The Dickens Fellowship, Kitton compiled the catalogue of their 1903 exhibition. His Dickensian library was later purchased by the Fellowship and donated to the Guildhall Library. Copies of the book in this condition are QUITE SCARCE TO THE MARKET and COPIES IN THEIR ORIGINAL DUST JACKET ARE RARE. Fine / fine. Item #3682
