The Woman in White

London: Folio Society, 2004. First Thus. Hardcover. A Fine, Superior, copy of the first separate Folio Society edition, second printing, with an Introduction by Ruth Rendell and Illustrations by Alexy Pendle, in a Very Good slipcase with some surface marking to the exterior and a tiny stain to the interior -- no dust jacket, as issued. Considered by many to be on of the first mystery novels, and is widely regarded as one of the first (and finest) in the genre of "sensation novels", works which combined both realism and romance written in a style that allowed to the author to explore the social anxieties of the Victorian Era such as loss of identity, and featuring such things as murderers, murderesses, bigamists, adultery, poisonings, and other forms of real villainy. The first Folio Society edition of the novel with these illustrations was published as part of a set of four Wilkie Collins works, and this second printing of the work is the first Folio Society edition of this novel separately published with the Rendell Introduction and the Pendle illustrations. As of the date this listing, copies of this first Folio Society separate edition are surprisingly uncommon to the market. A nice copy of this highly-notable novel. Fine. Item #822
