A Very Good + copy of the first edition, first printing, bound in paper parchment with the spine and front board lettered and decorated in gilt and the rear board decorated in gilt [slight loss to the top spine overhang and some minor shelf wear to the board bottoms]; a Memory of the famous editor and president of The Century Company. The Century Company was founded by Scribners as a subsidiary in 1891 and was thereafter purchased by Roswell Smith, whereupon the company's magazine "Scribners Monthly" was renamed "The Century Illustrated Monthly Magazine". The company also published "St. Nicholas Magazine" from its inception. The volume states that the tribute was prepared by Roswell Smith's friend, the author George W.
