Gidget: The Little Girl with Big Ideas

New York: G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1957. First Edition, First Printing. Hardcover. A Very Good + copy of the first edition, first printing (tiny rubs to the spine ends and leading board corner edges) in a not quite Very Good [for this title] example of the scarce first issue dust jacket (with some general wear and small chips as well as some tide marking). Friedrich Kohner was born in Austria and emigrated to America in 1936 due to the evils perpetrated upon Jews due to the rise of the Nazi party. Kohner is best known for his Gidget novels featuring the title character of "Gidget" which Kohner based on his daughter, Kathy Kohner-Zuckerman. The first of his five Gidget novels, "Gidget: The Little Girl with Big Ideas" provided the basis for the film of the same name, a film which launched Sandra Dee's career. Three other Gidget novels also were made into films, and Kohner's Gidget works provided the basis for a television series which launched Sally Field's career. Copies of the first edition are far from common and those in the dust jacket -- in any condition -- are quite so. A Very Good copy. QUITE SCARCE INDEED. Very good + / very good. Item #932
