A Visitation of Spirits [UNCORRECTED PROOF]

New York: Grove Press, 1989. First Edition, First Printing. A Fine copy of the Uncorrected Proof in the Publisher's original green wrappers with front wrapper showing the projected price inked thereon and the expected month and year of publication stamped thereon in ink, and with the scarce Publisher's publicity photo of Kenan and the announcement sheet sent with the Proof to reviewers; Kenan's Debut Novel, a work set in Tims Creek (Kenan's fictional name for Chinquapin, North Carolina, a small rural community where Kenan grew up under the care of his Great-Aunt). The novel, while praised by a few critics, received scant attention until the publication of the author's second book, a collection of short stories titled "Let the Dead Bury Their Dead", a work which critics hailed as a revival of classic southern literature. The book was nominated for the Los Angeles Times Book Award for Fiction, was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award, and was named a New York Times Notable Book. This Uncorrected Proof of Kenan's Debut Book is quite uncommon to the market and scarce when accompanied by the Publisher's publicity photo of Kenan and its publicity newsletter for Reviewers. QUITE SCARE INDEED. Item #980
