A Very Good copy of the first edition, first printing, in the Publisher's origianl wrappers, SIGNED BY JACQUES LAURENT on the title page (some modest soiling and edge wear). The novel won the 1971 the Prix Goncourt [Le Prix Goncourt], a Prize given annually by académie Goncourt (Goncourt Academy) since 1903. Notable winners of the Prize have included Marcel Proust, Simone de Beauvoir, and André Malraux. Laurent also won the Grand Literature Prize of the French Academy (one of the oldest and most prestigious literary awards in France) and the Literary Prize Prince Pierre de Monaco. Signed copies of this notable work are not at all common to the market. Having an excellent Provenance, this copy come from the Estate of Fanny S. Chipman [Theophania Camille Bunand-Sevastos "Fanny" Chipman], wife of US Diplomat Norris Chipman, niece of Antoine Bourdelle (for whom she posed for his great statue "La France"), granddaughter of the great philosopher, poet, author, Paul-Louis Couchoud, and friend of Anatole France and of Anne Morrow Lindbergh. Chipman also worked closely with the famed Doris Stevens, co-founder and active supporter of the Congressional Union for Woman Sufferage. Genuine signed books by Jacques Laurent are exceedingly scarce. A Very Good copy, SIGNED BY JACQUES LAURENT.
