A Very Good copy of this study of the human figure in motion, richly illustrated with printings of photographs taken in connection with the author's study, SIGNED BY EADWEARD MUYBRIDGE adjacent to his image appearing on the page facing the title page and bound in the Publisher's red, somewhat flexible, boards. The book also contains a section to the rear titled "Miscellaneous Phases of the Human Figure in Motion Selected from Various Seriates; and Reproduced on the Same Scale as Originally Published in 'Animal Locomotion'". The book also contains an Appendix with a group of facsimile signatures of some of the subscribers to "Animal Locomotion". Named Edward James Muggeridge at his birth in English, the fame photographer changed his name many times, finally arriving at Eadweard Muybridge. He was a noted English photographer who was important for his pioneering work in photographic studies of motion, and his early work in motion-picture projection, his large photographs of Yosemite Valley brought him great fame. At the of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Muybridge produced over 100,000 images of animals and humans in motion, thus capturing what the human eye itself could not distinguish as separate movements. This notable work is in Very Good condition with some general wear and settling of the heavy page block and contains photographic reproductions showing naked or scantily clad men, women, and children. Signed copies of any printing or edition of Muybridge's work appear to be EXCEEDINGLY SCARCE and, at the time this listing was created, ABE shows no signed copies of any of Muybridge's works.
