A Very Good or better copy of the TRUE FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING of the trade edition with some fading at the bottom edges, in a Very Good dust jacket, SIGNED BY JOHN BERENDT on a sticker affixed to the front free endpaper; Berendt's DEBUT BOOK, nominated (and a finalist) for a Pulitzer Prize. The book was an instant success and became (in its time) the longest-standing New York Times best-seller. Based on real-life events that took place in the 1980's, the book provided the basis for the 1997 movie of the same name starring Kevin Spacey and John Cusack and directed by Clint Eastwood. The book centers on a murder and the subsequent trial of an art collector, bon vivant, and simi-closeted homosexual named Jim Williams (the Kevin Spacey character -- a now ironic choice for the role). A Very Good copy of the TRUE FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING IN THE FIRST STATE DUST JACKET, SIGNED BY JOHN BERENDT.[This copy has all of the points required to be a first edition, first printing of the book in the first state of the dust jacket. Some copies listed on the web as firsts do not meet all these requirements.]
