A Very Good or better copy of the first edition, first printing, in a very good illustrated dust jacket as well as the scarce to rare glassine dust jacket. (The illustrated jacket shows to tape repairs to the inner side.) The volume is bound in attractive green cloth lettered and illustrated in gilt to both the front board and to the spine. Within, the volume is illustrated in both black and white as well as with richly coloured tissue-guarded plates. The binding shows some rubbing to the board edges and some rubbing to each board's leading corners. This copy bears the Lippincott name to the spine tale and the green binding's front board and spine are lettered and illustrated in gilt. The closed page block's top edge is in gilt as well. The volume is somewhat askew and shows some rubbing to the spine ends, board edges, and leading board corners. Within, the volume is richly illustrated in black and white as well as with richly coloured tissue-guarded plates. This lovely copy wears the original illustrated dust jacket as well as its rare tissue jacket and is the ONLY COPY WE EVER HAVE SEEN IN THE COMPLETE SET OF JACKETS.
NOTE: As stated in the Encyclopedia of British Romanticism: "The Sensitive Plant is a poem composed by Percy Bysshe Shelley and Published in Prometheus Unbound and Other Poems in 1820. The Poem was written following the death of his child, Will, and the subsequent despondency of his wife, Mary Shelley, while they stayed in Pisa, Italy. The Poem is four stanzas long and written in the style of fable genre, and it describes a garden of flowers tended by an unnamed Lady. The titular "sensitive plant, the Mimosa, stands out amongst the flowers." Very good / very good. Item #3863
