An About Very Good or better copy (which had been in Poor condition prior to recent restoration work done by an excellent craftsman with multiple decades of experience) with the restorations including refreshed endpapers and pastedown, several spine repairs -- including a strengthening under-spine placed under the old spine (with the earlier remains of which old spine are still remaining) -- and the placement of archival binding tape to each hinge). In short, this is an EXTREMELY RARE 16th-century printing of John Calvin’s commentary on the Pentateuch (the first five books of the Old Testament as well as Calvin's commentary on Joshua. Calvin wrote a number of biblical commentaries, each of which have become very popular references for hundreds of years. Calvin, as could be expected, focuses heavily on God’s dealing with men and the covenants with his people even through their sin and weaknesses. This is the only copy of this complete edition that we ever have seen.
NOTE: This edition was published in Geneva by Pierre de Saint Andre in 1583 – a huge folio – that also includes Calvin’s commentary on Joshua! A remarkable work of the Old Testament commentaries of Calvin!
